What To Expect

We understand that, for most people, the thought of attending a church service for the first time is really daunting. We would like to assure you that everyone (and we do mean EVERYONE) is welcome, whether you have never been to a church before or have attended church services over many years.

Don’t worry – although that is easier said than done – we have all come for the first time at some point in our lives and people will try and make you feel at ease. So – for example – if you need the loo – we all know where it is and will be happy to point you in the right direction – we are all human after all !!!!!

Sunday Services

On a Sunday morning, between 10:30 and 11:00 you will be greeted by a door steward as you enter through the central door between the original church building and the hall.

Most weeks we have a cup of tea or coffee before the service and this allows you to get to meet people before going into the service.

The service will be in the old church building for more formal services, the large church hall for Messy Church and the small hall for streamed services. Don’t worry – just follow the crowd as they go in.

The Start Of The Service

At the start of the service in the church and small hall there is a brief period of silence signified by the lighting of a candle for peace followed by the singing of “Be Still”. The words for this and all of the songs are projected onto the wall of the church or shown on the screen at the front of the small hall.

Typed sheets are also available, if this is what you prefer. Messy Church is less formal and just uses song sheets.

Communion

Once a month we have communion and welcome all that believe in the Lord Jesus Christ to join with us in taking the bread and wine. Don’t feel embarrassed to let it pass you by if you don’t want to take it. We eat the bread on receiving it but drink the (non-alcoholic) wine together.

The minister will give you guidance as to what to do and when.

If you are not familiar with what communion is then this link gives you some detail.

The End Of The Service

At the end of the service (about an hour after it starts – so usually about midday) we sing “May God’s blessing surround you today” and many Church members will greet others and shake hands whilst singing it. If you do not feel comfortable with this – again – don’t worry – by all means close your eyes, bow your head and think about the words that are being sung.

After The Service

After the service we generally have a cup of tea and coffee and this will give you a chance to talk with whoever has taken the service and/or the congregation.

So – we suggest that you plan to arrive about 10:40 and leave @ 12:30 and, as much as you can, just relax and take what the Lord is giving you from the service …….
